1. Why an auction, is nursery going out of business?

No, we have an annual auction in order to clear out our spring-dug material and thin out some of our evergreen fields. Then we have a clean slate to move ahead with our fall digging.

2. Are there any extra charges tacked on to my purchase?

No, you are charged exactly what you bid – no buyer’s premium, no extra charge on credit cards -- plus sales tax, of course, unless you prove exemption.

3. If I am tax exempt for purchasing plants, (for resale, 501(c)3, etc.) how does Brown’s handle that for auction day?

You can fill out a one-day exemption form with the auction staff when you register or you may have had a form on file with Brown’s already. You can check with Brown’s office staff ahead of time to be sure.

4. Can I Pre-Register for the auction?

Yes, you can call the Nursery office or stop by up to a couple of weeks in advance to pre-register. You will need your ID whether you pre –register or register auction day.

5. When can I get my plants after auction?

Pickup hours are 8am to 6pm, Sunday thru Friday, just the week after Action. You must bring all of your auction tickets in order to pick up, otherwise, we won’t be able to find your items.

6. Is there a guarantee on any auction purchases?

There is no guarantee on any auction purchases. It is your responsibility to properly water and care for your plants when they leave the nursery. Ask questions about watering and care – we will be glad to help you learn if you’re not familiar with caring for newly transplanted trees and shrubs.

7. How long does the auction last?

The auction usually runs with two rings all day until 5 to 6pm. Some years it will run as late as 7 or 8pm depending on the plants offered, the weather and the crowd. If you don't make it out here earlier in the day but can get here in the evening, you are welcome to call to see if the auction is still running. There are great deals all day long
