DIOSPYROS virginiana 'PERSIMMON' TREE
This native tree has fragrant white to greenish-yellow flowers appearing in late spring. The ovate leaves are glossy dark green (2-6") and turn yellowish green in the fall. Male trees have clusters of flowers while female trees appear solitary. In winter, it has distinct thick, dark gray bark that looks like rectangular blocks. It has edible fruit when ripe and the leaves are used to make tea.
